A Piece of Cake Weekend Project

Super easy and affordable upholstered window valences!

The weather is way too nice to work on interior projects, but when spring showers arrive you might give these a go.
All you need is:
  • Pine boards the width and length desired. I used 12 inch boards and allowed an extra 3 inches in length on each side for curtain rod clearance. The end pieces are 6 inches wide.
  • 4 medium L-brackets and 2 large L-brackets per window valence. (the screws are included)
  • Fabric
  • Staple gun
  • Power drill
  • 2 people for installation
  • Furry helpers
Screw in medium L-brackets.
Start by upholstering the ends first. Make sure it's pulled tight. You don't want bubbles in the middle.
After the ends are secure, start with one side of the fabric and work from the middle out.
When you get to the end, pull excess fabric tight and watch the corners to keep them smooth.
Repeat on the other side, making sure to pull tight.
Fold raw edge over when making final staples to leave a finished look.
Measure for large L-bracket placement and drill brackets into the wall with the corner facing out.
Install by securing the large L-bracket to each end of valence.
Adds nice height and another layer of texture. Is also a great way to hide boring curtain rods. Happy Friday!

Canton Scores

It was definitely a successful trip. We found just about everything on our lists and then some!
A few photos of what a modern day treasure hunt looks like.

I had to resist the urge to buy the red vintage lawn chairs.

Can you spot the cute, fluffy dog in this vendors booth?

Loved the old marquee letters, but no "H's" to be found.

Junk galore! My kind of place.

Some much needed home-made ice cream after a long day of scouring the place.

I found:

  • 12 1920's wooden folding chairs that once belonged to the International Order of Old Fellows $11.50 each! What a deal.
  • 1 glass, amber colored head
  • A flying pig made of recycled street signs. Slightly tacky but I love it. He needs a name.
  • 2 iron shoe cobbling molds
  • 2 metal hanging baskets for my porch. Can't wait to plant them up.
  • 1 perfectly quaint side table for traveling to craft shows.
  • An awesome old door with beautiful carving
  • 2 1910's window sash sets. We are going to use them as our cabinet doors for our record shelves.
Mom had the best deal of the day! She talked a guy down to $125 for TWO vintage beds. They are in great shape with the side bars included! They just need a fresh coat of paint and they'll be ready to go at the cabin.

Next Canton weekend is: April 2nd - 5th

If anyone is interested in taking a trip, let me know. I'd love to go for round two!
