The Circle Game...

 When my best friends Courtney and Rob got married, 

Court's dad gave a toast and referenced Joni Mitchell's, The Circle Game.

After that night, Joni and I have become good friends and now as a mother, that particular song has even greater resonance within me.  

I still can't listen to it without crying, but then again, 

there are many songs that have that affect on me.

The idea of seasons turning to years and the ever revolving circle of life.

So much has happened over the last year since Beatrice Ann came into the world.

How can she be turning 1 on the 12th of October?

   

My hopes for this girl are for her to live a happy, joyful and beautiful life.

For her to be compassionate, loving and accepting.

To be positive and gracious.

To be true to herself.

To celebrate each season.

I love you baby girl.

Drink in everyday.

A New Birdie's Nest....

We have BIG news!!!

Birdie has moved from its Campus Corner location to a studio.

Our flower studio will be available to fulfill bouquet orders for birthdays, anniversaries and any other occasion with same day delivery available on most orders.

Delivery fees are as follows:

$5 for Norman

$10 for OKC

$15 for Edmond

We will have the same phone number, 405.579.0299, so don't hesitate to add us to your contacts and give us a call.

Our website will also be undergoing some much needed changes and updates.

We are excited about a new look and a site full of flower information and inspiration.

We will of course continue to be busy with fabulous weddings, so if you are newly engaged, give us a call to schedule a free consultation.

We are grateful for all the new friends we have made at our Campus Corner location.

I so enjoyed getting to work with Michelle and her family.

Thoughtful and lovely details.

Michelle's mom knit the beautiful chuppah, we used tons of eclectic tea pots, stacks of vintage books and she might have had the best cake I've ever seen!!!

The gardens at the reception site were incredible.  

If you haven't been to the Philbrook in the spring, check it out next year!

Scent of a woman...

One of my favorite scent memories is when my mom and dad would be going out for "date night" and mom would come and tuck me in. She has worn Clinique's Aromatics Elixir for as long as I can remember and I loved the way she smelled when she leaned over my bed and kissed me goodnight. 

 The other distinct smell that I recall is on non "date nights" she smelled clean and fresh with her Oil of Olay lotion. It's probably the reason I started using Oil of Olay, or should I say, Olay facial lotion. I love the way that pink lotion smells.  I bet Bea is already identifying me with that scent.

Happy Mother's Day to Ann Mann.

Weddings!

Wedding season is turning into a year round event for us.

While we are currently surrounded by all the fun color that spring nuptials bring,

Help...It's something that in the past, I haven't been good at asking for.

I have it all under control.
I can handle it.
I am superwoman.

I am an idiot for ever thinking this way.

I need help.
Help raising my child.
Help running my business.
Help keeping my heart and mind focused on whats truly important.

I'm so thankful to have help.
I am blessed with a wonderful husband, who takes good care of me and Beazer.
Fortunate to have amazing family that let Tyler and I have date nights.
We thank God everyday for the amazing woman that takes care of Bea while I'm at work.

Shop Keeping...
I don't know what I would do without our amazing staff at the shop.
At first, it was scary to hire employees, now I have no idea how we operated without them.
Hailey, Hunter and Wills, thank you for taking care of our customers and being truly interested in and inspired by plants and flowers. All three of you have wonderful natural ability. Thank you for taking care of my other "baby" while I'm hanging out with my real baby!

Perspective...
Grateful for times of reflection and evaluation and learning about what really matters...
Moments with my family. Bea's laughter and her sparkling eyes. Tyler's delight in sharing music with us. Walks in the evening with my best friend and first born. Face time with my mom and dad. Little things that are SO big.

Friendship and sisterhood. Feeling so close and connected to my dear friends. Whether it's encouraging each other in the challenges of motherhood or talking about dreams of what's to come, I have never felt so lucky to have the friends I have.

Finding fulfillment in my days work. I am very lucky to own my own business, work for myself and be in a creative field. As we move into the busy season of weddings, I hope to be conscious and mindful of these blessings and be a good leader. I'd like to give each bride the flowers they have dreamed about and provide a positive work environment.

Sometimes I don't have it all under control.
Sometimes I can't handle it.
Most of the time I am NOT super woman.

That's okay. Tomorrow is a new day. I can ask for help.

3 Months!

Our sweet little Bea has already made a quarter trip around the sun.

She's so sweet and funny and her personality is really beginning to shine!
This time last year, Tyler and I were in New York for market when we found out Bea was on her way!

Brides of Oklahoma Tablescape Shoot...

Birdie was thrilled to work with the super inspiring, Kimberlyn Hall of Blueberry Hill Events.
I had so much fun designing the flowers for this shoot.
The talented, Mr. Aaron Snow did the photography and Glorious Day Films made this AWESOME behind the scenes video of the shoot.
The shoot took place back in August, the temperature reached 100+ degrees and I was 8.5 months pregnant. It was worth it!

Beatrice Ann Huskerson

Miss Bea is here and she is so incredibly wonderful!
I can not believe how much she's grown in 7 weeks.
Here's one of my favorite photos lately.

Lately...

Lately we've been settling into a nice little nesting rhythm.

Cleaning and de-cluttering things around the house.

Did a few loads of laundry full of tiny little things.

Washed up all of her cloth diapers, onesies, blankets, swaddles and socks.

How in the world do you keep track of socks that tiny?!?!

I think my favorite baby item is her Aden and Anais bamboo swaddle blankets.

Holy moley!

They are so soft! Do they make them in adult sizes?

It's been fun trying out new recipes and making and baking warm food.

I've been nesting at the shop too.

Between training our new shop girls, putting out new product and enjoying our front door being propped open, it's been a really lovely week.

Nothing super notable, but a really lovely week.

Our hospital bags are packed.

We are 37 weeks today and I think she might be getting ready to make her debut!

Kitchen Remodel

It's been finished for about a month and we couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

The before kitchen served us well for the first 3 years. We were grateful we didn't have to buy any appliances when we moved in. However, I didn't mind saying farewell to the world's smallest full size, white fridge, a black dishwasher that didn't work so great and a stainless, gas range/oven that was a huge pain to clean.

Did I mention the random blue square and Mexican tile on the counter tops.
They were poorly installed and did absolutely nothing for me...
The faucet also had a tendency to detach from the plumbing and spray all over the place.
Bye bye faucet!

Before:

Demolition of the world's most blah and boring floor tile.
(It was also pretty hard to keep clean.)

AFTER:

Deep plum on the walls, custom island, fresh coat of white on the cabinets, a cute Waverly print for the windows...

We gave this corner cabinet from my parents house a fresh coat of paint.
It's a perfect place for fruit and veggie storage and allows us to keep the counter tops clear.

Our accordion light fixture might be my favorite item in the kitchen.
The stove is electric. Gasp! Tyler and I are decent cooks, but with two cats and a baby on the way, the convenience of wiping this down at the end of the night beats the "cooking with gas is just better" argument. The range is great and the "double" oven is awesome.
The top oven is perfect for pizzas, lasagna, brownies, etc. It even has a "toast" option. I think we've used the "big" oven once. The little guy is great and doesn't heat up the whole kitchen.

We also had two cabinets and shelves built in to the area between the pantry and laundry room door. It originally housed an ironing board back in the day, but was long gone when we moved in. It is the perfect depth and height for bottles, snacks and sippy cups storage.

The fridge is so great. I can actually go to the store and buy groceries for the whole week. It's so nice to have options. Tyler's Wu-Tang magnet made it through the remodel.

We found a charcoal grey rectangle tile for the floor, mini white subway tile for the back splash and did a granite (looks way more marbled than speckled) with flecks of dark grey, white, pink and purple on the counter tops.

The sink is one big open basin.
Perfect for washing babies!

It's been fun working on our little nest.
Now I'm ready to settle in and just enjoy the next few weeks and continue to prepare to welcome our sweet baby girl.
