Super Fun Christmas Garland

My friend Dana made a darling banner when our buddy, miss Erica, graduated from hair school. She told me about this free template at MarthaStewart.com:

http://www.marthastewart.com/article/clip-art-craft-festive-garland?autonomy_kw=paper%20garland&rsc=header_15

I used
  • Grey, medium weight paper from Copeland's
  • A regular hole punch
  • Ribbon
From Michael's
  • Bronze, Gold & Silver Glass Glitter from Martha Stewart
  • M.S. glue pen
  • 2 1/2 inch circular craft punch
  1. Print off the alphabet template
  2. Punch out desired letters
  3. Adorn with glue and glitter
  4. Double hole punch the top
  5. String along in order
  6. Hang and enjoy your holidays!

Patience, Diligence and Poinsettias

I work part time for my family at our flower shop and greenhouses. Although I don't want to do this for the rest of my life, I am so proud to be a part of it even for only a little while.

When my great-grandmother Prudence moved to America via South Africa, the flower shop began. In 2008, my brother Jeff and I are the fourth generations to be a part of Mann's Flower Shop and Greenhouses. My dad and brother have done an amazing job of growing the wholesale part of our business. This year they grew 15,000 poinsettias! They had to begin planting in July for them to be ready for Christmas! I know Prudence would be proud.

Thanksgiving at Our Cabin and Estate Sale Scores

Thanksgiving was great! Mom and I worked around the kitchen and made a pretty tasty meal. There was a minor disaster when mom dropped the just-from-the-oven sweet potatoes on the floor. The casserole dish did not shatter but there was orange goo everywhere. On the floor, the cabinets, the ceiling and on mom. Other than that, it was wonderful. We packed up dessert and headed out to the cabin. I quite enjoyed my pecan pie while swinging on the porch watching geese fly over the lake. It's so nice spending time with my fam.

A really great estate sale at 9:00 AM is my idea of a perfect "black Friday". Tyler went with me and we came across a pretty good selection of loot.

2 metal porch chairs: $25/chair (a new paint job will be had in the spring)
2 old frames: $4.00 and $6.00 (a little wood and some chalkboard paint)
A pair of peach Yves Saint Laurent vintage shades: $1.00
9 piece aluminum spice rack: $4.00

Certainly beat the mall...however, some people at estate sales can get quite hasty. A pardon me, excuse me every once in a while might be nice? After all, it's only stuff. We do live in Oklahoma and a big twister could take it away in a second. How about some perspective people. Tis' the season to be merry! Remember?

For those of you around Norman, the sale is on Oklahoma east of Classen and will be going on Saturday and Sunday. Loads of stuff. Happy hunting!
Have a wonderful day!

Sunroom / Office Before and After

Since Tyler and I have been married, I've noticed my tendencies toward pastels may not be the most conducive for our home. I have realized that my chance to decorate with pink probably won't come around again until we have a little girl. ( Not for a while mom :) )

Here are some pics of our sunroom. We use it for our office and it's a great place to sit and drink tea and read a book.

The pink, vintage hospital bedside table was moved to our guest bedroom.

I made new curtains with an Amy Butler print to give us a little more privacy since the sun room sits on the corner. My bird nest fern is thriving in its sunny conditions.

I covered a cork board with some vintage fabric I found at the Cleveland county flea and I installed the shelf myself. The power drill and I are becoming great friends. For organizing stationery and tucking away computer cords, I bought some boxes from Martha Stewart's line at Michael's.
.
I re-upholstered the chair with a dark grey linen and painted the desk a mustard yellow. Brown damask full length curtains make make it easy to block out the evening sun.

The gray filing cabinet adds a little "gender neutrality". I like the end result. It's still pretty feminine but I think Tyler likes it too.

Saturday, October 25th happenings

Coffee Slingers at 1015 North Broadway. Fun times to be had by all. My Tyler is playing with Mr. Wilson and they have some new songs that Wes wrote. Tyler Hopkins is a great songwriter, a hilarious individual and Tyler's friend since childhood.

The folks behind the counter make some really great coffee. With temperatures dipping into the 30s, I think it is definitely time for some warm beverages to be imbibed.

The Oklahoma City Ghouls Gone Wild Parade is this Saturday night too. It starts at 11th and N. Walker and goes by the "Field of Screams". (Across from the downtown YMCA) We didn't get to go last year. Really pumped about seeing this guy.

Hooray for Halloween, cooler weather, good music, great friends and a wonderful Saturday night!

Upholstery Daydreams

The majority of our furniture is vintage or antique. Come to think of it, the "youngest" furniture we have are two 1960's Bertoia Diamond chairs we found in the attic at my families garden center!

So, it can be assumed that our finds from flea markets, estate sales and our ancestors might need a little paint here and a new upholstery job there. Today I'm going to cover the shade for my grandmother VK's alabaster lamp

with this Amy Butler print Midwest Modern Martini in Mustard

Our dining room chairs

are getting updated with this discontinued Laurie Smith pattern I found at Hancocks for a super great deal. It's pretty bold, but I think it will work the the yellow that is in our light fixture.

My grandmothers gold, feather stuffed extra long and extra comfy couch

I'm going to make a slipcover for the frame in Montego Hemp Bamboo

and the cushions will be upholstered in Amy Butler Nigella Twill Grandflora in Nickel

And a chair that I originally bought on half price day at an estate sale, then a year later sold to my dear friend Jessica, then last weekend purchased back from her (due to her moving to Alaska!)

will finally get a new look with Anna's Drawing Room Volumes in Gold

All of the fabric I found on Fabric.com, with the exception of the Laurie Smith print. They have a great selection and you can order swatches on most prints!

I can bring you an "after" picture of the lamp shade soon enough, but the others will take a little time and some money. Have a fabulous day! Smiles!

Arkansas

We had a beautiful time with Jeff and Michelle in the great state of Arkansas!

Got some lunch in Fayeteville (such a cool and pretty college town) and then headed to Bull Shoals Dam to fish the White River. Alas, the water was too high due to Gustav and Ike but we were able to fish about 25 miles away at the Norfork. I am so thankful to have such a great friendship in my brother and his wife and for the way in which Tyler and Jeff have bonded. Some pictures...
